"Les parties intégrantes" of the classical
drama: Keys to the aesthetics of contemporary production |
07/2002 |
To
perform an Eighteenth Century opera nowadays, it is necessary to
adapt the codes of representation to the possibilities of its
reception by the audience. But, before operating this translation,
one must understand the internal rules of the piece, which can
be done only by the use of intellectual categories belonging to
the time it was written. By taking Pierre Corneille’s Parties
intégrantes as a tool for preparing the performances of
Vivaldi’s Rosmira fedele, the Académie Desprez aims to
experiment this process.
