Project: Documentary Funds
about Naumann
Laureates:
Patrick Rondeau & Benoît Dumas
The
German composer Johan-Gottlieb Naumann came twice to Sweden, the
second time being, in 1782, the invitation of Gustave III to
come and contribute to the development of the national opera by
the writing of Gustaf Wasa. This composer is a major
figure in the music history of Sweden and of its relation with
Europe in terms of intellectual exchanges. He already gave his
name to a grant of the Académie
Desprez, a reference to the fact that, when he came back
in 1782, he brought twelve sonatas for Glassharmonica.
The
project led in the GUSTAVE III Programme for the year 2002 is to
gather documentation about Naumann The process for constituting
this documentation is a step-by-step (theme-by-theme)
development which is supplied by personal contributions and
donations of the members of the Académie. Direct purchases by
the organisation might be considered but are likely to remain
exceptional, due to restricted financial means ; they will
happen in two circumstances : allowance of a grant to a member
who is willing to work on a specific topic, or exceptional
purchase of funds as occasion arises. The documentation centre
of the Académie Desprez
in Paris will be first open to the members of the Académie
Desprez.
Patrick
Rondeau and Benoît Dumas, who work in the sound industry, will
be looking for recordings of his music.
The
interest of working on a (relatively) delimitated field in terms
of subject is the possibility to establish a method for
registering documents and organising their classification. The
referencing of the documents about Naumann will be an
opportunity to test a computerized system, which is to be
generalised for further research. The database should be
accessible from the Internet, in a section of the website of the
Académie Desprez.
